Review: The Forest Spa at Middleton Lodge Estate

When it comes to spas, I’ve always been a bit of a skeptic. Often, they seem to promise more than they deliver, offering average experiences at premium prices. So, when I booked a half-day package at The Forest Spa at Middleton Lodge, I wasn't expecting much beyond a pleasant afternoon. Little did I know, this serene escape nestled in the Yorkshire countryside would completely transform my perspective on what a spa experience can be.

Set within the historic dairy of Middleton Lodge, The Forest Spa is surrounded by ancient oak trees and rolling fields, a picturesque setting that immediately soothes the soul. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the peacefulness that envelops the place, far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The spa is designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings, and the effect is nothing short of magical.

Our half-day package was thoughtfully curated to offer a taste of everything this sanctuary has to offer. We enjoyed full access to the pool, sauna, steam room, ice plunge, and jacuzzi, along with a delicious two-course lunch and a 45-minute treatment. The pool, in particular, was a highlight for me. It felt incredibly romantic, especially with the blue skies above and delicate white roses cascading around. Floating in that pool, it was easy to forget the world outside even existed.

Another memorable aspect was the cozy ambiance of the spa house. There was a gorgeous fire crackling in the hearth, surrounded by plush seating that beckoned you to sit down and relax. I could easily imagine how delightful this space would be in the winter, offering warmth and comfort after a bracing walk in the crisp air. Drinks were delivered to us throughout the afternoon, and when it came time for lunch, the staff set up a table outside so we could dine under the warm sun. The food was exceptional, and I especially appreciated the option to add extra sides to the set menu, making it a meal tailored to my taste.

One of the standout features of The Forest Spa is how it manages to be both luxurious and unpretentious. The service was impeccable—friendly and attentive without ever being overbearing. Towels and lockers were provided, making the experience as seamless as possible, and there was a wide range of additional treatments to choose from, should you wish to extend your stay.

The treatment rooms were charming little huts, surrounded by wild white flowers that added to the fairytale-like atmosphere. My full back massage was nothing short of heavenly, melting away any tension I had brought with me. Post-treatment, I was guided to a zen room where I was served tea and frozen grapes, a small but thoughtful touch that epitomized the attention to detail that defines the experience here.

One of the things that struck me most was the serene view from the sauna window, which opened out onto the meadows beyond. It was so unbelievably peaceful, a perfect place to sit and simply be. As I relaxed in this tranquil environment, I couldn’t help but wish I had booked the full-day package—the half-day simply flew by too quickly.

In conclusion, my visit to The Forest Spa at Middleton Lodge was nothing short of transformative. It redefined my understanding of what a spa can be—a harmonious blend of nature, luxury, and impeccable service. If you're looking for a retreat that offers not just relaxation, but a true escape from the stresses of daily life, this is the place to be. Next time, I’ll be sure to book the full day, so I can savor every moment in this haven of tranquility.
